Potential Side Effects

Medicinal cannabis is a relatively safe medication with a low incidence side effect profile. Side effects are predominantly linked to the THC component of this medication, and by decreasing or minimising the THC dose, side effects can often be avoided.

Each individual responds differently to THC, and therefore can have a different degree of side effects, or lack of, for each medication.

THC side effects are mostly related to the psychoactive symptoms, and include:

• Cough/sputum/bronchitis (when smoked)

• Anxiety

• Nausea

• Cognitive effects

• Drowsiness/fatigue

• Dizziness

• Dry mouth

CBD side effects are uncommon and are mostly centred around gastrointestinal upset, including abdominal discomfort, dry mouth, diarrhea/constipation.
